PS Sing’Oei Briefs Media on Kenya’s Participation in UNGA 81

Dr. Abraham K. Sing’Oei, Principal Secretary State Department for Foreign Affairs, today convened a media briefing at the Ministry’s Headquarters to confirm Kenya’s participation in the upcoming 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81), scheduled to take place in New York City, USA, from September 21 to 28th 2026.

Held under the theme, “Restoring Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All”, the Assembly will provide a platform for global leaders to deliberate on pressing international challenges, including debt sustainability, climate finance, digital trade and regional security.

Speaking during the briefing, Dr. Sing’Oei emphasized the importance of H.E President William Ruto in addressing these issues at the highest political level, noting that their complexity requires direct negotiations among Heads of State and Governments. He further underscored the significance of Kenya’s participation during the Assembly’s high-level week in advancing the country’s diplomatic priorities and contributing to global decision-making.

The PS also highlighted that the UN General Assembly which shall bring together over 150 Heads of State shall seek to unlock investment opportunities, promote green growth and support job creation.

“UNGA high-level week presents a significant platform for economic diplomacy, bringing together more than 150 heads of state, global financial institutions and technology leaders. Kenya’s active participation will be critical in leveraging these engagements to unlock investment opportunities, promote green growth and support job creation,” said Dr. Sing’Oei.

Kenya’s participation in UNGA 81 reflects its continued commitment to constructive multilateral engagement and to contributing to international efforts aimed at restoring trust, managing global transformation and promoting sustainable development. Through its engagement, Kenya seeks to advance national interests while supporting collective action on issues affecting the international community.

Accompanying the PS were Mr. Charles Owino, Governments’ Spokesperson, Ambassador Philip Thigo, Presidential special envoy on Tech and Artificial Intelligence among other Senior Government officials.
