Kenya India Relations

Director General for Political and Diplomatic Affairs, Amb. Josphat Maikara recently held discussions with Mr. Sushil Prasad, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the High Commission of India on the modalities for strengthening Kenya–India relations.

The discussions focused on advancing cooperation through established frameworks such as the Joint Commission for Cooperation, Foreign Office Consultations, and Joint Trade Committee, as well as exploring new opportunities in trade, investment, health, and capacity building.

The two representatives emphasized boosting Indian investments in Kenya’s Special Economic Zones, particularly in pharmaceutical manufacturing and establishing medical facilities, to ease access to treatment. The meeting also addressed visa arrangements, including lifting visa suspension for Kenyan diplomatic holders by the Indian Government and considering a broader visa-free agreement. Both parties reaffirmed the strong historical ties between the two countries and emphasized the need to elevate their partnership to a strategic level, with agreed follow-ups through formal diplomatic channels.
