Kenya flags off ICT Talent team for global competition in China
The Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs H.E. Musalia Mudavadi today officially flagged off 12 outstanding students and lecturers who will represent Kenya at the Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 Global Final in Shenzhen, China.
The Huawei ICT Competition 2025–2026 attracted more than 220,000 participants from over 2,000 universities and colleges across 100 countries and regions, making it one of the world’s largest platforms for nurturing ICT talent.
From the Southern Africa region, Kenya emerged strongly, securing three top positions and qualifying three teams for the global finals—underscoring the country’s growing reputation in ICT innovation and digital skills development.
H.E. Musalia Mudavadi wished the team success, commending them for their excellence and encouraging them to uphold Kenya’s flag with pride, discipline, and determination as they compete on the global stage in Shenzhen.
Huawei Kenya Chief Executive Officer Mr Gavin Gao congratulated the finalists, noting that their achievement reflects Kenya’s rising digital talent and Huawei’s continued commitment to supporting ICT education and innovation across the country.
Melane Minayo One of the student participants from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Techinology expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying the competition has strengthened their technical skills, teamwork, and global outlook, and that they are ready to represent Kenya with pride and confidence.
The ceremony was attended by Huawei Kenya Chief Executive Officer Mr Gavin Gao and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof Robert Kinyua.
