KENYA AND RWANDA DEEPEN COOPERATION AT THE 10TH JOINT PERMANENT COMMISSION FOR COOPERATION

Kenya hosted the 10th Session of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC) between the Republic of Kenya and the Republic of Rwanda in Nairobi. The three-day session commenced on 5th October 2026, bringing together senior officials from both countries to take stock of the bilateral relationship in its entirety; assess progress made; review previous recommendations; address implementation challenges; realign bilateral cooperation with evolving national, regional and global priorities; and explore new and expanded areas of cooperation.

Opening the meeting on behalf of the Principal Secretary, Dr. Korir SingÓei, the Director General, Political and Diplomatic Affairs, Amb. Josphat K. Maikara, EBS emphasized on the longstanding relations between the two countries across a broad range of areas, including trade and investment, infrastructure, energy, security, education, agriculture, ICT and institutional capacity building.

Amb. Makaira noted that the task of the 10th Session of the JPCC was therefore to build on the strong foundation of bilateral relations, address areas requiring greater attention, and identify new and emerging opportunities for cooperation. He emphasized that the value of the JPCC would ultimately be measured by the extent to which its deliberations translate into tangible opportunities for both countries and contribute to improving the lives and well-being of their peoples.

The Rwanda delegation was led by the Director General, Ms. Teta Gisa Rigwena, Africa Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation on behalf of the Permanent Secretary, Amb. Fidelis Mironko of the Republic of Rwanda.

Ms Teta echoed the strong historical partnership between Kenya and Rwanda, which has made significant progress over the years. She underscored the importance of continued cooperation within the spirit of the East African Community (EAC), as well as through the established framework of the Joint Permanent Commission for Cooperation (JPCC).

Participants were urged to approach the discussions with openness, pragmatism and a shared commitment to translating the strong political goodwill between the two countries into practical outcomes that deliver tangible benefits to Kenya, Rwanda and their peoples
