Ministers and government representatives from 123 nations attended the virtual Summit, themed “Global South and Global Governance,” hosted and chaired by Dr. S. Jaishankar, Minister for External Affairs of India.

Dr. Mudavadi called for the urgent need to address climate change and other concerns like conflicts and development in the Global South as part of the reforms within the multilateral structures. He called upon participants to be watchful about geopolitical issues, particularly, the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the West Asia crisis noting that these crises were leading to an escalation in fuel, food, and fertilizer prices, and disadvantaging the developing nations. He called for meaningful proposals that would address these issues and improve inclusive and fair global political and financial governance.

Dr. Mudavadi also cautioned about the possibility of cyber technology weaponization, which had the potential of inciting bloodshed and unrest in various countries. He urged the Global South to closely examine and address this rising threat.

Commending India and other Summit participants for prioritizing developing nations’ concerns in addressing global issues, the Prime Cabinet Secretary reaffirmed Kenya’s commitment to working together towards this noble aim. The Summit offers a unique opportunity to explore developing country issues, interests, and objectives while enabling idea sharing in achieving the Global South’s common goals.
