Foreign Service Academy Hosts Training on Middle East Diplomacy in Partnership with the League of Arab States
The Foreign Service Academy (FSA), in collaboration with the League of Arab States (LAS), officially opened a five-day training on Diplomacy in the Middle East at the Academy . The training aims to strengthen the capacity of Kenya’s Foreign Service officers to effectively engage with countries in the Middle East region.
Ambassador Stella Munyi, Deputy Director General, Americas Directorate, delivered opening remarks on behalf of Ambassador Josphat Maikara, Director General, Political and Diplomatic Affairs. She underscored the importance of the seminar in advancing Kenya’s diplomatic engagement with the Arab world and commended the League of Arab States for its continued partnership and support.
“This collaboration stands as a strong expression of friendship and an important pillar of South–South cooperation,” she stated.
Ambassador Munyi highlighted the Middle East’s central role in global affairs, citing its strategic geopolitical position, vast energy resources, and growing economic linkages with Kenya. She emphasized that the region remains a vital source of trade, investment, and employment opportunities for Kenyans abroad.
Speaking during the opening, Ambassador Mokaya Deputy Director General, Foreign Service Academy, reaffirmed the strategic importance of the Middle East to Kenya’s foreign policy priorities.
“This training will deepen our officers’ understanding of the region’s dynamics, opportunities, and challenges, and strengthen our capacity for effective engagement,” he noted.
Ambassador Mohand Sala Ladjouzi, Assistant Secretary General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries (AFTAAC) under the League of Arab States, reiterated the League’s commitment to deepening collaboration with African nations.
“The League of Arab States regards Africa as an important partner and will continue to strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest,” he said.
The seminar is being facilitated by H.E. Ambassador Ashraf Mowafi, former Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and will run for five days. Participants will explore key thematic areas including diplomacy, regional security, and economic cooperation.
