Dr Musalia Mudavadi, Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs receives Ms. Antonia N’gabala Sodonon, incoming UN Women representative in Kenya.

Dr Musalia Mudavadi, the Prime Cabinet Secretary has in his capacity as Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs received Letter of credence from Ms. Antonia N’gabala Sodonon the incoming UN Women representative in Kenya.

Ms. Sodonon informed that UN Women had four priority areas for Kenya that are aligned to the national priorities and include Governance and participation in public life where women are involved in leadership and decision making.

Women’s Economic Empowerment; Ending Violence Against Women; and Women, Peace and Security are other key priority areas that the UN is keen on.

Critical issues discussed during the meeting included the increasing cases of femicide in the country and the upcoming U.N. Women Agency celebrations marking  40 years in Nairobi next year; an event that is expected to bring together high-level delegates from 140 Member States. 

Dr. Musalia Mudavadi while affirming Kenya’s progress in ensuring gender equality is attained at the Cabinet level, reassured Ms. Sodonon of his support in discharging her mandate.
